Introduction
The Professional Standards module provides a structured, developmental environment where educators and school leaders can reflect upon their classroom practice, track their professional growth over time, and curate evidence against accredited national or trust-specific standards frameworks.Conceptual Model
The module organises professional growth and standards evaluation through a clear four-tier hierarchy:- Standard Types (Frameworks): Accredited national standards (e.g., AITSL Teacher Standards, AITSL Middle Leader Standards, AITSL Principal Standards, UK Teachers’ Standards) or custom Multi-Academy Trust / school growth frameworks. Each standard type defines an ordered set of Proficiency Levels (e.g., Graduate, Proficient, Highly Accomplished, Lead, or custom developmental tiers).
- Standards (Domains): Major competency domains within a framework (e.g., Standard 1: Know students and how they learn, Standard 2: Know the content and how to teach it).
- Standard Areas (Sub-Standards): Specific focus areas and sub-criteria within each domain (e.g., 1.1 Physical, social, and intellectual development and characteristics of students).
- Standard Stages (Level Descriptors): Detailed behavioral and pedagogical exemplifications describing what practice looks like at each progressive proficiency level within that specific area.
- Standards Reviews: Annual staff review records linking an educator to a designated standard type and academic calendar year, under the guidance of an assigned Standards Appraiser.
- Evidence Vault: Secure file repository where staff upload supporting documents (PDF, DOC, DOCX, JPG) directly to individual sub-standard areas.
- Longitudinal Growth Tracking: Built-in historical comparison that automatically displays the staff member’s previous academic year’s assessed stage alongside their current reflection.
Proficiency Levels & Visual Indicators
To deliver immediate clarity and visual insight into professional growth, the module employs intuitive colour-coding, progress tracking, and historical markers across all dashboards and review workspaces:1. Proficiency Stage Colour Coding
Each assessed level is assigned a distinct, modern colour badge:2. Longitudinal History Indicator
When viewing an active standards review, any descriptor that was selected in the staff member’s preceding academic year’s review displays an orange History Clock icon (fa-history). This enables teachers and appraisers to instantly identify progression, consolidation, or shifts in practice without switching between historical records.
3. Sub-Standard Evidence Status Pill
Each sub-standard area features an interactive Evidence badge:- Green Badge: Supporting evidence has been uploaded for this specific sub-standard. Clicking the badge downloads the file directly.
- Grey Badge: No supporting evidence currently attached.
- Upload Icon (
fa-upload): Allows the staff member (reviewee) to upload new PDF, Word, or image evidence files up to 4MB.
4. Progress Bars
Every standard header and overview row includes a segmented progress bar illustrating the distribution of assessed areas across proficiency levels.Roles & Permissions Matrix
The module provides role-based access control to maintain confidentiality while fostering developmental collaboration:To protect professional ownership and data integrity, evidence files can only be uploaded, amended, or removed by the Reviewee themselves. Appraisers and managers can view and download uploaded evidence for developmental reviews but cannot modify the reviewee’s evidence vault.

/standards/admin/standards/{standardType}): High-level statistical breakdown showing the percentage of staff evaluated at Incomplete or across each proficiency level (Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4) for every major standard domain. - Sub-Area Granular Breakdown (
/standards/admin/standards/{standardType}/{standard}): Deep-dive analytics displaying exact percentage distributions across every individual sub-standard area.
5. Authorised Appraisers Roster (/standards/admin/appraisers)

Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) & Central Governance
For Multi-Academy Trusts, federations, and local authorities coordinating standards across multiple academies:- Centrally Synchronised Standards: Trust leadership can define or curate standardized professional growth frameworks centrally. Centrally deployed standard types display a locked status and are automatically synchronised across all member schools.
- Consistent Career Benchmarks: Ensures that teaching competencies, leadership expectations, and appraisal frameworks remain aligned across primary, secondary, and special school phases.
- Local Appraisal Autonomy: While frameworks are standardised centrally, review ownership, self-reflections, evidence uploads, and appraiser assignments remain entirely confidential and managed at the individual school level.
