Further Setup (Manager Guide)
Operational setup, ownership delegation, context statements, and criteria customisation are managed by an
Orthodox SEF Manager via the Manage console (/admin/areas).1. Authorising Owners & Viewers
Navigate to Manage > Owners (/admin/owners) and Viewers (/admin/viewers):
- Grant Owner Permissions (
sef_orthodox_own): Authorise religious studies leads, secular curriculum coordinators, pastoral heads, and senior leaders to maintain specific inspection domains or criteria items. - Grant Viewer Permissions (
sef_orthodox_view): Authorise governors, Rabbinic/ecclesiastical authorities, and trustees who require read-only visibility into the SEF.
2. Formulating Context Statements
Navigate to Context Statements (/context):
- Click Add Context to record narrative background statements outlining your school’s operating environment and religious foundation.
- Articulate your school’s foundational ethos, communal partnerships, pupil demographics, and educational philosophy.
- Use the drag handles (
fa-bars) to reorder statements into a logical introductory sequence.
3. Recording Priorities & Previous Inspection Trajectory
Navigate to Priorities (/priorities):
- Click Add Priority to record development points and recommendations from your most recent inspection report.
- Document concrete actions taken, verified impact across religious and secular studies, and corresponding priorities aligned with your School Development Plan.
4. Allocating Area & Criterion Ownership
Distribute evaluative responsibility across your team:- Assign Area Owners: In Manage > Areas (
/admin/areas), click the edit icon on an inspection domain (or select multiple areas using table checkboxes and choose Change Owners) to allocate domain leadership. - Assign Item Owners: Click into an area’s administrative view (
/admin/area/{area}) to review individual criteria descriptors and assign specific teachers or coordinators.
Staff Workflow & Annual Self-Evaluation Cycle
Once ownership is allocated, staff can complete self-evaluations through an efficient, four-step routine:1
Identify Assigned Domains & Criteria
Staff log in and navigate to
/sef. Domains containing assigned criteria display a notification bell icon (fa-bells) next to the progress bar.2
Evaluate Granular Criteria
Staff click into their assigned area (
/sef/{area}), review individual criteria, update the evaluative status (Exceptional, Secure, Insecure, Weak), and record concise evidence commentary with links to lesson plans and pupil work portfolios.3
Draft Five-Part Area Summaries
The designated Area Owner synthesises evidence and drafts narrative content across the five core headings: Summary, Actions Taken, Impact of Actions, Strengths, and Areas for Development.
4
Generate Inspection Pack
Senior leaders click Print to export either the official Inspection Summary or the comprehensive self-evaluation dossier for governors and inspection teams.
