Schools must comply with a wide range of health and safety requirements, and those requirements come from many different sources — legislation, statutory guidance, sector frameworks, and local authority expectations. Keeping track of them all in separate spreadsheets or paper-based systems makes it difficult to maintain consistent oversight and produce evidence for governors. The Safety Audit module collects all your H&S obligations into one place so your team can monitor progress, assign responsibility, and demonstrate compliance throughout the year.

Key Features

The module comes pre-loaded with 280 checks across 35 categories — from accidents and e-safety to managing contractors and operating swimming pools. You can configure these checks for your school and add new ones as needed.
  • 280 checks across 35 categories — a comprehensive, pre-built set of H&S requirements and good practice covering the full breadth of school health and safety obligations.
  • Fully customisable — configure the default checks for your school’s context and add additional checks to reflect any unique requirements.
  • Senior and individual ownership — group requirements can be assigned to members of your Senior Leadership Team, while individual items can be assigned to any member of staff or a governor.
  • Evidence notes — when you review an item you can record information explaining how your school complies or how you plan to develop further, building a clear evidence base throughout the year.
  • Colour-coded review dates — overdue items, those due within four weeks, and those further ahead are all colour-coded so priorities are visible at a glance.
  • Configurable review dates — review dates default to annually but can be set for any point up to 18 months ahead to match your school’s review calendar.
  • Printable audit report — print a full safety audit report as evidence of compliance for governor meetings or external inspection.
  • Weekly reminders — Safety Owners receive weekly email reminders for items that are overdue, not yet confirmed, or due for review within the next four weeks.
In a Multi-Academy Trust, some Safety Items can be managed and updated centrally. Schools still have locally assigned Safety Owners who receive reminders and can be involved in the coordinated review.

Roles in Safety Audit

Safety Manager The Safety Manager role is assigned by an Administrator. Safety Managers can assign the Safety Owner role to any user of the system and can manage all Safety Areas and Safety Items across the audit. Safety Owner A Safety Owner is responsible for specific Safety Areas or individual Safety Items. Owners receive weekly email reminders when reviews are due or overdue. An area owner can also reassign individual items within their area to another user, provided that person also holds the Safety Owner (or Safety Manager) role.
There is also a Safety Viewer role for staff who need visibility of H&S status without update access. Any user with view access can print individual areas or the full audit report, and will see a summary panel on their Dashboard.
